Syllogisme

An argument whose conclusion is supported by two premises, of which one contains the term that is the predicate of the conclusion, and the other contains the term that is the subject of the conclusion; common to both premises is a term that is excluded from the conclusion.

Examples :

"The teacher used a classic syllogism: All men are mortal; Socrates is a man; therefore, Socrates is mortal, to explain logical arguments to the class. "

Le professeur a utilisé un syllogisme classique : Tous les hommes sont mortels ; Socrate est un homme ; donc Socrate est mortel, pour expliquer les arguments logiques à la classe.

Examples :

"The politician's claim, while sounding convincing, was ultimately a syllogism designed to mislead voters about his true intentions. "
